The month of June is the month of the Orange campaign, dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of two blood diseases, Anemia and Leukemia.
Anemia, despite being very common, still remains a topic that raises many questions among the population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia is a condition in which the hemoglobin content in the blood is below normal, as a result of a lack of one or more essential nutrients, and may be caused by a deficiency of various nutrients such as iron. , zinc, vitamin B12 and proteins.
Main symptoms of anemia: Fatigue, lack of appetite, pale skin and mucous membranes, malaise, learning difficulties and apathy.
Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and one of the most common in the world. It occurs when a blood cell that has not yet reached maturity undergoes a genetic mutation that transforms into a cancerous cell, which can be adjusted in relation to the speed of evolution (acute or chronic) and the cell type predominantly affected (lymphoid or myeloid).
The main symptoms are: paleness, tiredness, fever, enlarged lymph nodes, persistent or recurrent infections, bruises, petechiae, unexplained bleeding, enlarged spleen and liver.
The diagnosis is made through tests such as: blood count, computed tomography or myelogram and even a bone marrow biopsy, if necessary. Treatment depends on the type and stage of the disease, however, such as therapies involving chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell transplantation, bone marrow or inhibitors, or targeted therapy.
