March is not only the month of International Women’s Day, but also the month of the Cervical Cancer prevention campaign. Named Lilac March, this month is dedicated to caring for the malignant tumor that affects the lower part of the uterus. The disease is one of the biggest causes of cancer death among women in the world.
Colon cancer is transmitted through sexual intercourse. It is caused by the HPV virus (Human Papilloma Virus), which infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are more than 200 types of HPV in the world, but only 14 can cause cancer, one of which is cervical cancer.
In Brazil, uterine cancer is the third most common type of cancer, behind only breast cancer and colorectal cancer. It mainly affects women aged between 45 and 49.
Preventive measures for cervical cancer are mainly carried out by preventing HPV. These measures involve practicing safe sex, taking a pap smear annually and seeing a gynecologist, oncologist and general practitioner regularly.
Be safe! Schedule a regular consultation with a specialist doctor.
