We begin another month in the fight against cancer, this time the battle is against prostate cancer, more common among men, after skin cancer. Although it is a common disease, out of fear, prejudice or lack of knowledge, many men prefer not to talk about this subject.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men in Brazil, with more than 14 thousand deaths annually. The preconception among men is still reluctant to seek information. It is estimated that 1 in 4 men do not undergo preventive exams due to pure prejudice. Many believe that their masculinity will be affected by the digital rectal exam. Don’t fall for this myth.
Fight prejudice and carry out the necessary exams. When prostate cancer is discovered early, the chances of a cure can reach 90%, as it is a slow-growing tumor. However, when diagnosis is late, the chances of survival are very small. Men over 50 should undergo the procedures annually!
